BSE Sensex slips 0.33%

Global markets today slipped while the dollar remained stable as investors booked profits in a recovery rally.

The 30-share BSE Sensex fell 0.33% (57.74 points) after a 3 day rally of reaching to 19 month high. Cigarette-to-hotel firm ITC and Hero Honda were the major losers. BSE closed at 17,343.82 after reaching an intra-day high at 17,440.05 and intra-day low at 17,322.80. On the other hand, the 50-share NSE Nifty fell 0.36% (18.50 points) and touched 5,169.45.

Major sell-off was seen in capital goods, metal, oil & gas exploration and some private financial companies. Stocks of ITC, Hero Honda, Sun Pharma and Reliance Communications also exerted pressure on the markets. However, overall loss in the market was limited due to some buying in realty, cement, auto and power stocks. On the other hand, BSE Midcap Index and Smallcap were up 0.33% and 1.13% respectively.
